The Project
The vision
The vision of the @aGlance project is:
- to examine and develop technologies based on use centered design to support overview and collaboration between emergency response personnel with different responsibilities during larger events.
The challenge
The overall challenge related to emergency response is to provide overview @aGlance of:
- excisting technologies in use
- physical objects in use or needed
- digital and physical information
- resources/personnel (stretcher teams, medics, first aid, security, coordinators)
- the information flow between them
The technology
The @aGlance project develops and joins technologies to support overview, collaboration and coordination at e.g. larger events such as the Skanderborg Festival (around 50.000 visitors) as part of the contingency plan.
- to allow professionals to assemble large numbers of pervasive computing devices and services
- to produce an overview of their ressources
- to get data from handheld devices in order to produce an overview of the situation on the ground
- and thereby support collaboration between (potentially distributed) team members

The method and the people
The project partners include both developers and users of the technologies.
By working and experimenting together they form the technologies.
Their method is called use centered design. The strategy is among others to meet up at real-time experiments at the festival and at workshops before and after the festival to test and try out technologies in collaboration on spot.
Emergency response personnel at the Skanderborg Festival
- Constitute the overall communication and coordination during the festival related to health and security
- Their tool is thousands of volunteers, different technoligies and years of experience
- Their vision is to make the festival a cheerful and most important a secure place for about 50.000 music enthusiasts
The personnel and residents at Sølund
- Participate at and enjoy the Skanderborg Festival
- Their tool is freedom of movement
- Their vision is to use communication and localisation technologies to provide and support further independence and safety for residents and personnel
- develop software and technologies based on use centered design
- Their tool is years of experience on how to support collaborative teams and develop software
- Their vision is to further develop and improve technoligies to support emergency response teams in the future
